1938 North American Handbill

It was during a recent attic clean-out of an old house in Pittsfield, New Hampshire that this 1938 Snow White handbill was discovered inside an old book. "Man, woman or child...it will amaze you, charm you, thrill you..."

Front Unfolded

The flyer was advertising the June 12-14 screenings of Snow White at the Scenic Theatre in Pittsfield. Four other films of the day are also mentioned...Wild Horse Rodeo, Midnight Intruder, Walking Down Broadway, and Penitentiary.

Handbill measures unfolded to a size of 12" x 9".

Inside Unfolded

It was found in this envelope which was sent out by the Scenic Theatre. The delivery address is marked "Box Holder" so it was probably part of a mass promotional mailing for the film.

Snow White Window Cards

Window cards were movie posters designed to be placed in store windows and other locations around town. Because large numbers were needed, theater owners usually purchased them in bulk orders. The posters were produced on heavier card stock, but to keep costs down, a cheaper printing process was used. As a result, they tend to lack the luster found in one-sheets and other movie art.

The window cards came in one of three sizes with 14" x 22" tending to be the standard. There was also a midget (8" x 14") and a jumbo (22" x 28"). Across the top of the two smaller sizes was usually a blank border where theater owners would write information about dates and showtimes. Info via Learn About Movie Posters.

Drive-In Theater Handbill

Sci-fi and westerns were the norm of the day when this double feature of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was paired with the western Flesh and the Spur.

An original handbill advertising upcoming February features at the Outdoor Theatre in Clearwater, Florida, this would have been given to the drive-in theater patrons. It most likely dates from 1958 when Snow White was re-released. With the likes of The Blob, The Tall T, and The Bride and the Beast, it was one heck of a good week to visit the movies.
