Springtime Is When Celebrities Pose With Snow White

Back on May 23rd of 2008, the Orlando Sentinel's Theme Park Rangers posted this Celebrity/Snow White sighting...
Tina Fey...the 30 Rock star/writer/producer is here with her family, vacationing at Walt Disney World. That’s her two-year-old daughter with Snow White and her husband Jeff Richmond in the background near Cinderella's Castle at Magic Kingdom.

I’m sure Snow is a good sport and doesn’t mind that Alice is wearing an Ariel/Little Mermaid shirt. Dewayne Bevil,  May, 23 2008

March 23, 2009 from the Orlando Sentinel once again...
It's a double-star sighting today at the Magic Kingdom with 30 Rock star / mastermind Tina Fey and ER star John Stamos, posing with princesses Belle, Cinderella and Snow White inside Cinderella Castle. Fey and Stamos are visiting Walt Disney World with their respective families and happened to be at the theme park on the same day. Stamos is a known Disneyphile, but we wonder what Fey likes best about Disney World. Dewayne Bevil, Ma, 23 2009

Oriental Poppies

Good Morning one and all, it's time for another Allsorts challenge and this week Amanda would like to see Oriental themed projects.

Before I move on to my card, a heads up that it's or second birthday in three weeks time and we are having a blog hop......please feel free to grab the logo above and help us spread the word.

I was really quite pleased when I was this theme because like lots of you I am sure, I have so many lovely Orients style stamps from a few years ago when they were so popular and it's nice to dust them down and create.

My main image is Hampton Arts 4523 Asian Poppy stamped onto a background spritzed with GM clover, tea rose and pearl. The frame was cut on a Nestie and I coloured the flowers with Copics and stamped the large poppy a second time and decoupaged. The base card is stamped with JudiKins 221J, a huge stamp but idea for backgrounds, the sentiment a Kanji cube from the Stamp Barn and the poppy made with TH tattered floral die.

Snow White "Diamond Edition" Heading Back to Vault

Today is the day that Disney officially removes from distribution the 2009 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Diamond Edition Blu-Ray/DVD. It's heading back to the "vault" where it typically sits for 7 or 8 years before the next technological media innovation entices it back out again.

"Back to the Vault" video promo via the Disney website.

Good bye for now...

Of course, if you haven't gotten your copy, there's no hurry. The Blu-Ray/DVDs will be available for years to come on reseller sites like amazon, ebay and others.

1950s "Scary Adventures" Nash Advertisement

"Make it a Nash vacation..." with this magazine advertisement for the Nash Ambassador Country Club automobile set in front of Disneyland's Snow White Adventures. A rare site for sure, it probably dates from 1956 when such a thing as a non-Disney promotion could still actually occur with scenes from inside the park.

Brayering demo work

Hello peeps, I thought I would share some of the work I did at my Stampalot demo on Good Friday.

So many people tell me they have a brayer, but never or rarely use it because things never turn out right. As with all things it's practice, but having the right products are so important. Time and again I find it's not the persons ability to brayer that's a problem, but what they are using and cardstock is the biggest culprit and with only the odd exception you need a coated cardstock, silk or gloss finish like this or this. And I can't recommend the good old Speedball brayer enough, along with Adirondack dye inkpads and Big and Juicy.

Fairly straightforward masking, brayering and stamping with a whole host of Art Impression stamps. I won't bore you and list them all out, but if you want to know the codes of any specifics please do drop me a mail.

In case nobody realised........as if, I'm so obvious.........I have a thing for creating little scenes and masking and stamping into apertures.........I know it might be a bit monotonous but I kind of think it sets the scene off so well.

So those of you who are 'closet brayerers', dust them down and have a go, it's such a rewarding form of crafting.

Blossoms and a candy winner

One of the gorgeous May hedgerows round the home paddock or to give them their official name Crataegus (hawthorn)

Good Morning peeps, hope you all had a good Easter and your weather was as beautiful as it was here. It was almost too good to believe, but in typical UK style, this morning it's dull and quite chilly.

The sun really gave the garden a push and lots more shrubs and plants are showing flower along with the beautiful hedgerows which my Dad planted about twenty years ago........they were just single shoots then.........and look at them now allowed to follow Nature with only trimming ever year or two. I adore the blossoms tinged with pink which look almost magical at dusk, like a veil of white in the distance and when the scent is at it's strongest.

I guess you would all like to know who has won my April candy, so here are the are the names:

Winner of the Stampalot voucher - Lorraine
Plus a little crafty suprise for Banshee and Adriana

Congratulations to you all, please all mail me brenda@ibas.co.uk with your postal addys and names before 1st May, when I will re-draw any unclaimed candy

Rhododendron (no idea of variety)

Hesky always takes a keen interest in photography - could just be he's an out and out poser

Ben as usual more interested in his stomach than the camera

Note the haircut's not finished, only his front feathers are trimmed so far

Bluebells peeping out from under the hedges round the top paddock

More Rhododendron

And the bottom paddock

I will be back with my May candy very soon...........................

1975 "Snow White Character Mug" Give-Away

1975 Giveaway Mugs (4 1/4" tall x 2 5/8" wide).

As part of the promotional campaign for the 1975 North American re-release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Procter and Gamble corporation was offering a free character mug giveaway with the purchase of one of their cleaning products. The mugs, which included Snow White, Grumpy, Doc and Dopey were exhibited in a freestanding cardboard aisle display. This display was featured on the centerfold (pages 16-17) of the Snow White pressbook that was sent out to theater owners.

_____________

The display to the right consisted of a square base which held the mugs and a topper which promoted the giveaway campaign. Combined, it was close to 5 feet in height.

Another taller version (as seen in the pressbook above) had a back panel with shelves to hold the mugs.

_____________

It's interesting to note that there were a couple different graphic designs for this display. One topper had a 3-dimensional paperboard mug. On another, the mug was simply a flat image. Also the adjective "classic" was changed to "current"...

On the first display (with the 3D topper), the face of the base emphasized the four free mugs. On the second, it focused on the promotion of the film at movie theaters...

I recently learned from collector Rick Payne that twice as many mugs were produced featuring Snow White and Dopey as compared to those for Doc and Grumpy. Presumably they felt the first two would be more popular.

The Screen Guild Theater Radio Broadcasts of Snow White

Probably the best known radio broadcast of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was that of the 1938 Lux Radio Theater (see earlier post) which featured an appearance by Walt Disney himself. Yet, the Screen Guild Theater performed at least five more radio adaptations of Disney's Snow White, each were half-hour shows that aired live from Hollywood. The first in 1944 was followed by one in 1946, two in 1948 and another (that was paired with Pinocchio) in 1950.

The Screen Guild Theater was a popular radio show from 1939 to 1952. It was broadcast on CBS for the majority of its run from 1939-1948 with NBC taking it over from 1948-1950, ABC from 1950-1951 and back again to CBS for one more season in 1952. It also went by different names depending upon who the sponsor was: The Gulf Screen Guild Theater, The Lady Esther Screen Guild Theater, The Camel Screen Guild Theater.

Big name Hollywood stars performed on the show to help raise money for the Motion Picture Relief Fund, a charitable organization which assisted retired actors and others in the movie industry who may have fallen on hard times. The salaries from the radio performances were usually donated to this fund.

The first three Snow White Screen Guild Theater programs were broadcast on CBS and generally followed the same script, the first two sponsored by Lady Esther and the third by Camel. The fourth program (the second of 1948) was also sponsored by Camel but aired on NBC. The script was probably similar to the earlier ones (but I have not yet located the audio recording to confirm). The last Screen Guild performance of Snow White aired on ABC in 1950.

Both the '44 and '46 performances were narrated by the popular Edgar Bergen with his "side-kick" Charlie McCarthy. The 1948 CBS show featured eleven year old Margaret O'Brien telling the story to Jimmy Durante. Then later in 1948, the NBC program again starred Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy as did the ABC episode in 1950.

Fifteen year old (not 14 as stated in the program) Jane Powell played the singing voice of Snow White the first time around. Fourteen year old Mary Jane Smith replaced her two years later in '46 and again in both of the 1948 programs.

The 1944 broadcast saw Billy Gilbert return from the original film to reprise his role as Sneezy. This is probably why Sneezy ends up having the most lines of all the dwarfs in the script. Charles Kemper played the role in '46 while Mel Blanc took it over in the 1948 CBS version. There are moments in Blanc's performance that you can hear distinct shades of Yosemite Sam. Charles Kemper returned in 1948 for the NBC show.

April Showers

Happy Easter Everyone

I so hope the weather is still holding out for you all the same as it is here in the Fens. I had a wonderful day demoing at Stampalot yesterday......even if I did think it was Saturday and go into panic mode last night because the Allsorts post had not appeared as scheduled.

It was fabulous to see so many friendly faces yesterday and thank you all for coming along............I was really thrilled to meet some blogland peeps for the first time......Linby who travelled from Nottingham, Sue who came from Norfolk, the two ladies from Suffolk (please forgive me but names evade me at the moment, but I know you said you are visitors to my blog) plus of course all the 'regular' faces who are always a pleasure to see. An awful lot of chatter took place and as Janice mentioned, a lot of giggles came from the demo room, but I did get a bit of crafting done as well I promise you.

So now I've got my days straight and today definitely is Saturday there is a new challenge at Allsorts and this week Kirsten has chosen the theme April Showers. And there is a lovely set of Hero Arts stamps for this weeks winner donated by Sir Stamplaot.

A perfect opportunity to use one of my favourite slapstick stamps from Penny Black called Rain or Shine. The image is coloured with Aquamarkers and decoupaged. The DP is one of the new designs from Scribble Scrabble and I embossed a panel of matching bazzil with my Cuttlebug birds and swirls folder as it matches the pattern on the DP so well. I distressed the panel by sanding and embossing the edges with gold and added some perfect pearls to add a bit of sheen.
