1996 Peter Max Serigraph
Back in the 1960s, the psychedelic poster art created by Peter Max was hugely successful. Coined the "cosmic 60s", his stylistic work sold in the millions. Nearly three decades later, he turned his attention to Disney. Max generated a collection of original paintings, lithographs, and serigraph (silk-screen) prints of Walt's most beloved characters including, as seen above, Miss White.
Disney Suite: Snow White group of 4. These serigraphs from about 1994 are each signed, numbered and measure 16" x 14". Edition size 500.

In addition to his shows and exhibits at the world's top museums, Peter's also made abundant personal appearances at galleries and other art exhibition spaces. In the 1990s, when he was creating his Disney works, he actually painted individual pieces on location.
On one such visit in 1998 to the Fingerhut Galleries in Minnesota, Peter painted this piece below.
David Welch, seller of collectibles, recounts the details surrounding this piece...
Apparently Max had a licensing deal with Disney to do these as they are clearly marked on the back. The process used here is that the image was pre-printed on the canvas in black and white and he would then hand paint it--sometimes as the purchaser stood and watched. It's kind of like a coloring book page--on canvas--that Max hand-painted [which makes it] less expensive than a stand alone original painting. I have no idea how many Snow Whites were painted by Max, but they were supposedly all unique in that he painted no two alike. The person I bought this from paid $11,000+.
The colors are outstanding! Measures approximately 16 x 16". Stapled to the original wooden frame. Marked with Max internal inventory numbers, and actually signed TWICE...on the front and on the back.
Special thanks to David Welch of Childhood Memorabilia (via PEZDUDEWELCH) for the info and images of the Fingerhut Galleries piece. Used with permission.
