Charles Boyer Snow White Poster (50th Anniversary - 1987)

A 1987 Golden Anniversary commemorative poster was created by Disneyland master illustrator Charles Boyer. A limited edition, the 20" x 30" print was available for purchase in the park. It features a little girl looking into a mirror and seeing the reflection of Snow White and three of the dwarfs. The Snow White in the poster was the actual cast member at that time who played the princess in the park, and she posed for the painting.

_____________

For one day only on July 17th, the date of the 1987 theatrical re-release, these posters were given away free to Disneyland guests as they exited the park. The cast members at the gate would ask if you were coming back inside. If you said yes, you didn't get one. If you said no, they gave you a poster.

As mentioned in the earlier post, just outside the gate, the Disneyland Post Office had set up a temporary booth where they were cancelling postage with a commemorative Snow White rubber stamp. Snow White enthusiast Barbara of Harborhousee55 took her free poster over and got it stamped.

Printed at the bottom of the poster are these words...
In honor of the Golden Anniversary of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," Disneyland presents this limited edition commemorative poster by Disney Artist Charles Boyer. July 17, 1987.

Disney Legend recipient Charles Boyer started his career at Disney in 1960 by accepting a "temporary" job at the theme park. He was Disneyland's very first full-time artist and ended up staying for 39 years.
Charles produced nearly fifty collectible lithographs, as well as a diverse range of artwork for magazine covers, brochures, and flyers -- even Company-commissioned oil portraits for retiring employees. He has worked in all media including pastels, oils, watercolors, gouache, acrylics, pencil, and ink. Source: Disney Legends
He retired in 1999.

Kent Melton and the WDCC Snow White/Prince Figurines, 1998-2006

Artist Kent Melton was working on live-action film projects in California when in the early 1990s he landed the job of sculpting all the character maquettes for Disney's Aladdin. His artistic reputation soon grew within the company and when in 1992 the first porcelain pieces began to appear in the Walt Disney Classic Collection, he was a natural recruit. To date, Kent has sculptured more than half of all the WDCC figurines produced.

When it comes to pairing Snow White and Prince sculpts together, Kent has been the go-to guy. The first was A Kiss Brings Love Anew, a numbered limited edition of 1650. It was released at the 1998 Disneyana Convention held September 7th-11th at WDW's Contemporary Resort.

The piece measures 11" x 10" and is 9 1/4" tall. The flowers at the base of the bier and around the pillow are handmade. The backstamp had a special 1998 Disneyana logo with an image of Walt Disney. A Certificate of Authenticity came in the box as well as a Disneyana Convention Certificate of Verification. Retail price was $750 (USD).

Peter Max Snow White Art

This 1996 Snow White serigraph features Peter Max's iconic rainbow scheme of colors and "cosmic" glow.  Numbered edition size of 500. Measures 16" x 14" (40.64 x 35.56 cm). Sells for $1000 or more (USD).

1996 Peter Max Serigraph

Back in the 1960s, the psychedelic poster art created by Peter Max was hugely successful. Coined the "cosmic 60s", his stylistic work sold in the millions. Nearly three decades later, he turned his attention to Disney. Max generated a collection of original paintings, lithographs, and serigraph (silk-screen) prints of Walt's most beloved characters including, as seen above, Miss White.

_____________

In addition to his shows and exhibits at the world's top museums, Peter's also made abundant personal appearances at galleries and other art exhibition spaces. In the 1990s, when he was creating his Disney works, he actually painted individual pieces on location.

On one such visit in 1998 to the Fingerhut Galleries in Minnesota, Peter painted this piece below.

David Welch, seller of collectibles, recounts the details surrounding this piece...
Apparently Max had a licensing deal with Disney to do these as they are clearly marked on the back. The process used here is that the image was pre-printed on the canvas in black and white and he would then hand paint it--sometimes as the purchaser stood and watched. It's kind of like a coloring book page--on canvas--that Max hand-painted [which makes it] less expensive than a stand alone original painting. I have no idea how many Snow Whites were painted by Max, but they were supposedly all unique in that he painted no two alike. The person I bought this from paid $11,000+.

The colors are outstanding! Measures approximately 16 x 16". Stapled to the original wooden frame. Marked with Max internal inventory numbers, and actually signed TWICE...on the front and on the back.
