Fan Art to Cosplay for Snow White Costume

Artist Claire Hummel, aka shoomlah, has created a series of impressive illustrations featuring the Disney princesses in historical dress. Her Snow White design, for instance, is set in 16th century Germany. She says on her deviantArt page, "I took a wide swath from about 1500-1530 to come up with something that still maintained the spirit of the original design...Honestly? I just wanted to draw those damn slashed sleeves. I want them SO BAD."

Claire says she receives requests from cosplayers asking permission to re-create her dress designs, though no one has ever sent her a photo of a finished dress...until now. Here's a glowing example from costumer Chibirinoa who made the outfit for Halloween this year.

Re-creating Hummel's illustrated design is an amazing feat in itself. Making it work in the real world is something else entirely. Yet Chibirinoa seems to have done just that. From her website...
Snood: The snood was one of the most annoying parts of this costume. It's made of a bunch of trim with hand sewn pearls between the diamonds and sewn down to bias tape with elastic strung through it. I'm wearing two wigs just to get the net full enough!

Bodice: The main part of the bodice is suede and has center panel embroidery that I did free motion on my machine. The gold on the sleeves was also embroidered with zig zag stitching to mimic the artwork. The rest of the fabrics are a loose weave boucle and a cotton eyelet. The back laces up with gold laces.

Skirt: the skirt is casa collection satin with the jacquard band and bias tape. The skirt had to have shoulder straps to keep it sitting high enough on my waist!

Muchas gracias to Hana Street for the notice on this.

Further Snow White Photography from "Disney Resort"

We revisit the artistic image manipulations of Flickr photographer Sam, aka Disney Resort...

From Sam's Flickr page:
On slow days at the park, it's not unusual to see a Princess at the castle all by herself.

I ran into Snow White and asked if I could take her photo, and she obliged. I then got this idea in my head and asked her if she could pose for me looking out at the castle. She giggled, no doubt thinking I was a dork, but was nice enough to do it for me. And that's how I got this [below]. Thanks Princess! That was perfect. Sam aka "Disney Resort"

"Choose Carefully Snow White"...

DR Sam creates his images by first starting with the original shot from the park and bringing it into Photoshop for cropping and meticulous adjustments.

Then paying close attention to light and shadow, he slips the princess into the scene which in this case is the flopped image of a cottage interior.

Sam works his magic again!

Choose Carefully Snow White finished piece.

Fan Art - Whistle While You Work / Vogue

Here's an interpretation of Snow White 'whistling while she works' created by illustrator Greg Hardin. Back in 2007, Greg submitted this to DrawerGeeks, a weekly online site where professional artists, just for fun, would upload their drawings of a pre-chosen fictional character. One such subject was none other than Snow White.

This Snow White Vogue is one of several Disney princess faux magazine covers created by artist Dante' Tyler Brown. His entire series of eight "supermodels" (the others being Pocahontas, Cinderella, Tiana, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine and Belle) has been showing up on sites all over the internet.

Ping Full-Back Snow White Tattoo

Singapore artist Ping of Night Action Tattoo Studio created for model Annfaye Kao the ultimate in Snow White fan art--a full back tattoo.

The piece features the Evil Queen and the Prince on either side of the Princess who is in a Mardi Gras style dress (from the Disney Princess Jewels line).

Representing the Dwarfs are Doc, Bashful, Dopey and Grumpy. A couple of the forest animals also fill out the design.

See more of Ping's work at his flickr photostream.

Design in progress.
